Suction Units in Coherence of International Standards

A hospital needs various specialized equipment to deal with situations and conditions that helps to reduce the suffering of the patient comfortably. Technological innovations in medical science are adding up almost on a daily basis. One such innovation has been the various specialized suction units that may be used to clear the airway of blood, saliva, vomit, or other secretions so that a patient may breathe without any obstruction.

Manual Vacuum Extractor
Manual Vacuum Extractor

A suction machine is a portable medical apparatus used in wards or theatre’s which helps in aspirating fluids and vomit from the mouth and airways. Through a catheter the waste liquid is collected in a bottle. It is usually an electric unit which contains a vacuum pump, bacterial filter, vacuum gauge, and trap for moisture, a reservoir for aspirated material, and a suction catheter or nozzle. The pressure of the suction may be adjusted according to the need. It can be of high vacuum or low vacuum, or high flow or low flow rates.

There are various types of suction units for different medicinal purposes, the basic aim being to help in suction of the unwanted fluid from the body as the situation demands. Every part of the human body is uniquely designed and hence different suction units are needed for different parts of the body. It principally works just like your vacuum cleaner sucking away the unwanted waste.

Suction can prevent pulmonary aspiration which can lead to lung infections. In pulmonary toilet, suction is used to remove fluids from the airways. It helps in facilitating breathing and to prevent the growth of microorganisms.

Suction machines are also used during surgeries to remove blood from the area being operated on to allow surgeons to view and work on the area. Even after a brain surgery or intracranial haemorrhage suction may be used to remove blood that has been built up within the skull.

Suction devices may be mechanical hand pumps or battery or electrically operated mechanisms.

Different types of Suction Units

GPC Medical Limited offers the most advanced suction units based on their 80 years of experience in medical field and their constant technical innovations which comply with demand of relevant international standards.

Electric Suction Unit

Electrically Operated Suction Units

Electrically powered suction units of GPC Medical Limited stand out for quality and for precise performance of the various aspiratory interventions. The basic element of the device is an electrical membrane pump which creates a vacuum. It is highly efficient, has a long life, makes minimum sound and requires minimal service or maintenance.

Gas Powered Suction Units

In a gas powered suction unit compressed air powered suction units generate the vacuums with the compressed gas, usually air. For converting the compressed into the vacuum, an ejector is used. The ejector is then connected to the central system of compressed gas directly or with a connector on a flexible tube, whereas compressed gas from a cylinder can also be used.

Breathing Lives with Anesthesia Products

When we talk about the word anesthesia, it means a temporary state of mind that lacks awareness and becomes unconscious with temporary loss of memory, lack of pain, and muscle relaxation. Anesthesia is usually given to patients who have to undergo surgery, so that the person does not experience the trauma of being under the knife and is able to do away with the pain during the surgery. Anesthesia can be given for very minor operations and also major organ surgeries. In today’s times we cannot imagine a surgery without using anaesthesia.

History of Anesthesia

When the medicinal wonder of anaesthesia was not known the injured person underwent extremes trauma when a surgery had to be performed on him or her. The doctors’ skills lied in how fast he or she could perform the surgery and the mortality rates were very high. Soon, a lot of alternatives began to be experimented to numb the patient while operating on him or her.
In 1846 a Boston dentist named William T.G. Morton of the Massachusetts General hospital publicly demonstrated the magic of general anaesthesia. He gave an ether anaesthetic for the removal of a neck tumor by surgeon John Collins Warren. About ten years later cocaine was introduced as the first viable local anaesthetic. It was only in 1930’s that Dr. Harvey Cushing began using local anesthesia.

Anesthesia Products & Equipment

Is Anaesthesia risky?

There are both major and minor risks of anesthesia although with high level of sophistication and stringent medical experiments we hear of a very few cases of anaesthesia that have failed.
The major risks include death, heart attack and pulmonary embolism. The minor risks can include postoperative nausea and vomiting and readmission to the hospital.
The most important factor in an anesthesia being successful is the general health condition of the patient. A healthy patient with basic parameters of general health working fine responds to anesthesia in a more positive way.
The combination of safe and efficacious drugs, highly trained and dedicated personnel, and good monitoring equipment and drug delivery devices has made general anesthesia a very safe preposition with almost 99% successful cases.

Artificial Resuscitators

It is a hand held device shaped like a bag very commonly used to provide positive pressure ventilation to a patient who is not breathing or is breathing inadequately. They are to be used by a trained professional. Most devices also have a face mask and an oxygen reservoir bag along with the artificial resuscitators.  They come in different sizes for infants, children, and adults.

Anaesthesia Oxygen Masks

These are masks that are used to provide general anaesthesia inhalation gas to operative patients.

Rebreathing Bags

The usual function that the rebreathing bag plays is that of a reservoir for the expired gases in a rebreathing circuit.

Corrugated Tubes

Corrugated tubes are used for connecting components of anaesthesia breathing circuits.

Guedel Pattern Airway

When a patient is not in his or her senses the muscles in their jaws relax and this may further allow the tongue to obstruct the airway. The role of the Guedel Pattern Airway is to maintain the airway open during the surgery by taking care of the airway and preventing the tongue from covering the epiglottis.
Anesthesia Machine

Anaesthesia Machine

An anaesthesia machine is a trolley on which gas cylinders, pipelines for various gases used in anaesthesia are mounted together along with various valves, controls and ancillary equipment. An anaesthesia machine is an omnipresent device found in all operating theatres, X-Ray department rooms, accident and emergency unit, dental clinics, and even the community clinics.
In all we can say that anaesthesia is the first and a very crucial step that is taken for any surgical procedure. It has to be done by very professional personnels and no margin of error can be allowed in the anaesthesia process.
At GPC Medical Limited all the products that are provided bear a stamp of excellence and trust.

Precise and perfect surgical instruments for priceless lives.

Times have changed and as human species we have begun to live longer and begun to be conscious of our health. Life spans have increased and so have the medical complications. A longer life means there is degeneration of the human cells with ageing and hence the need for replacement arises. There is a constant efficacy to experiment for betterment of health and therefore there is also a rise in the surgeries on the human body.

The word surgery no more sounds unheard of and a lot of people go under the knife during their life span. This has increased the demand in surgical instruments by manifold.

What are surgical instruments?

All kinds of instruments, tools or devices that are required during a surgery fall into the surgical instruments category.

The process of surgery involves cutting, dissecting, grasping, holding, retracting, or suturing using different types of surgical instruments. These instruments include scissors, forceps, needle holder, retractors, scalpel, towel clamps, and suction devices to name a few more important ones. These instruments are of highly sophisticated quality with the capability of dealing with minimal intrusive surgery.

What kind of material is desired to be used for these instruments?

We at GPC Medical Limited use materials that are in convergence with our expertise using primarily stainless steel to manufacture these surgical instruments. We also use other metals like titanium, chromium, vanadium, and molybdenum, are also used. We ensure that each instrument that is being made by us is of a highly sophisticated material and has the perfect sharpness required for a surgery. A high level of stringency is maintained while making these materials as they can be responsible for the life or death of a person.

There are strict institutional and professional protocols for the preparation of surgical instruments. Before using these instruments for an operation they must be sterilized and kept hygienically.

They must be promptly rinsed and well cleaned after a procedure.

Details of Surgical Instruments

Scissors: It is one of the most used instruments when performing a surgery. It can be of different types such as a scissors having blunt or sharp blades, straight or curved blades. Mayo scissors are used for cutting heavy fascia while Metzenbaum scissors are used to cut delicate tissues.

Forceps: They are made of two tines held together at one end with a spring device that holds the tines open. They can be used for tissue forceps or for dressing forceps. There are also Hemostats and Haemostatic Forceps and Intestinal Forceps

Scalpel: Scalpel is a sharp dissector. It has two parts-handles and blades. According to their size these handle and blades have different numbers.

Needle Holder: They are locking instrument used to hold the needle while suturing tissue.

Retractors: They assist in the visualization of the operative field while preventing trauma to other tissues.

Suction Devices: They help in removing blood and other fluids from a surgical or dental operative field.

In a nutshell, we can say they are not just only surgical instruments but actually life saving devices that can be instrumental in saving a life. All you need to know about Orthopedic Implants

For a lot of people the word orthopedic implant may sound a little unknown. Unfortunately, if this term is introduced to us while we are in the hospital after an injury of self or a close one it might for once send down ripples and create panic. However, with advanced technologies and sophisticated instruments it should be of no reason to worry.

It is a medical device that is manufactured to replace a missing joint or bone or to support a damaged bone. In case of an accident or a deformation of the bones in the human body the patient has to go for internal fixation of the bones. This implies that through a surgical implementation an orthopedic operation is carried out to fix the damaged bone of the person injured. They replace or reinforce the damaged structure.

Orthopedic Bone Plates
Orthopedic Bone Plates
There are several types of medical implants and amongst the most common are the pins, rods, screws and plates used to anchor fractured bones while they heal. Since, these medical implants need to be within the body there can be no compromise on the material that is being used to manufacture these artificial joints. The best of steel along with titanium alloys that are coated with fine plastic if required has to be used to maintain quality. The surface of the implants that contact the body should be of bio medical material such as titanium, silicone or apatite depending on what suits the body best. This helps the body to accept the artificial implant easily.

Things to be kept in mind while going for an orthopedic implant:

  • Apart from the above mentioned important criteria, that there can be no compromise on quality and the material being implanted, the implant should also be modified according to the need of the body.
  • The surgery should be carried out by the best surgeons so that the results are as desired.
  • The post operation instructions should be carried out carefully so that no chances of infection remain.
  • The exercises that are recommended should be followed as per the doctor’s advice.
  • The company that is providing the implant should be reputed and has been certified.
  • The technology should be the latest.
  • The best players in the market like GPC Medical Limited who are known for their quality goods and a trusted wide customer base all over the world should be considered.
  • The implant being used should not be overpriced.
  • The patient should have faith and keep a positive outlook.
  • Therefore, we can conclude that the success of an orthopedic implant is a collective exercise involving many people with the right skills and trusted manufacturers.
